App development

Overview

The Humanities Lab offers support for app development within research projects. As mobile phones are a natural part of everyday life, they can serve as effective tools for data collection, experiments, interaction and sharing information.
We can assist with the development of research-oriented mobile and web applications. Most applications require a connection to a backend system for data storage and management. The research project is normally responsible for building and hosting this infrastructure, but we can provide advice on technical architecture and integration.

Areas of application

App development can support:
1. Mobile data collection and input from participants
2. Digital tools for experimental tasks
3. Interface for digital experiments
4. Customised research tools and interactive platforms
Apps can be combined with web-based administration interfaces for managing data and users.

Technical details

We work with both native and web-based technologies:
5. iOS (Swift, Xcode)
6. Android (Kotlin, Android Studio)
7. Web technologies (JavaScript, HTML)
8. Vue.js and Quasar frameworks
9. Single Page Applications (SPA)
Technology choices are guided by project requirements and long-term maintenance considerations.

Access and support

Researchers are encouraged to contact the lab at an early stage to discuss the scope and feasibility.
